So what should you actually look for? Here’s a simple checklist we’d share with any parent, whether or not you choose us.
1. How much attention will your child get?
Class size matters more than most facilities. Ask about the student-teacher ratio. In smaller groups, teachers notice when a child is struggling, bored or ready for more.
2. Is learning only about marks?
Good results are important. But ask how the school builds thinking skills. Do children ask questions, work on projects and present their ideas? Or is it mostly memorising?
3. What happens outside the classroom?
Sports, music, dance, art and clubs aren’t extras. They build discipline, teamwork and confidence. Check what’s offered and how often children actually get to do it.
4. How safe is the campus?
This one is non-negotiable. Look for CCTV coverage, controlled entry, a medical room and trained staff. If the school runs buses, ask about GPS tracking and whether a female attendant travels on every route.
5. Is the school close to home?
A long daily commute tires children out before the day even begins. A school within your sector or nearby gives your child more time to rest, play and do homework.
6. How does the school talk to parents?
Regular updates, approachable teachers and clear communication make a big difference. Ask how often PTMs happen and how you’ll hear about your child’s progress.
7. How does it feel when you visit?
Numbers only tell part of the story. Walk around. Watch how teachers speak to children. Notice whether students seem happy and comfortable. Trust your gut.
